planning ahead

2 Feb

I realized last summer at the state fair that I need to plan ahead.

I was the leader for the hanging of the quilts for the state fair quilt exhibit.  I helped hang over 600 quilts and I couldn’t call one of them mine.

So I now have a plan.

First, I chose my award catagory for the fair.  “Blue and White Quilt”

Second, I found my pattern.  Hubble by Little Miss Rosie’s Quilt Co

Hubble[1]Third, I would have to top pieced before my girls finished the school  year.  When the girls are home for the summer I don’t get nearly as much sewing done.  So during my guild’s quilting retreat I finished piecing the top.  I’m pleased with the result.IMG_0370

Have a grand weekend!

Inspiration is Everywhere

10 Oct

As I was waiting for my class to start last weekend in Des Moines, I was sitting on the floor looking out at downtown.  I spotted a building that inspired a quilt design.  I don’t know when the quilt will get made but the inspiration is stored until it’s time.

Geometric Knots between Bar Blocks

This design would be very interesting with bold contrast.

Have a Grand Wednesday!

American Quilter Society Show – Des Moines 2012

8 Oct

I had a whorlwind weekend at the AQS show in Des Moines.

I was able to take a class with Pam Clarke.  “Quilting in the Lines” was a great class.  I am so excited to get quilting this week!

I was also inspired by the many beautiful quilts on display.  I thought I would share a few photos of quilting I found inspiring.

I love the flowing lines of the quilting.

Trapunto work is amazing. I could do that.

Very cool stone like quilting.

And here is a shot of the show.  And this isn’t the whole show.  There’s another huge room full of quilts.

After walking around for several hours I was thoroughly exhausted.  Then a long drive back to Nebraska.

Have a wonderful, quilty week.

Jamie Wallen’s Workshop

3 Oct

I thought I would share a few photos of Jamie Wallen’s work.  He shared so many ideas that I probably won’t be able to try all of them in this lifetime.  Here are a few photos.  Enjoy

Growth is essential

2 Oct

This last Saturday, I attended a workshop just for longarm quilters.  IT WAS AWESOME!

My mind is full of new ideas and I can’t get quilts loaded fast enough.  This is a good problem to have.

Jamie Wallen was our teacher for the day.  Check out his work at www.jamiewallen.com.  It is great to learn from real people.  Jamie is so down to earth and real.  If you ever have to opportunity to hear him speak I highly encourage you to do so.  You wouldn’t even need to be a quilter to enjoy listening to him.

So the first quilt with my refreshed quilting mind is off the frame.  I had a hard time getting a good photo.  But thanks to Vicki, down at Nana’s Country Quilt Shop, I finally got a couple.

The Back. This patten gives great texture.

And the front

Thankfully, my friend, Annetta, thought to post a photo of the baby quilt I finished quilting yesterday.  I have ordered a new camera so hopefully I will be better about taking and posting pictures of my work.

The kids are also back to school so I have been able to sew more this week.  It has been refreshing!

Have a grand weekend.

Me time!

7 May

I have finished all of the graduation quilts!

I had a lady call last Thursday, with just a touch of panic in her voice, asking if I could have her granddaughter’s graduation quilt done this week.  Thankfully, I had just finished my last quilt earlier in the day.  And she is so thankful.  I love being able to help out.

So today I am going to load one of my quilts onto the frame.  I know you’re shocked!  I have a tote of tops ready to be quilted.  Our Christmas Tree quilt is still hanging above the sofa because I don’t have anything else to hang in that space.  So today is the day.  Shaun is very excited!

I hope to have a photos soon.

Have a grand day!
